Selena Gomez reveals real reason behind her social media breaks

Selena Gomez doesn’t regret her dramatic social media breaks.

The 33-year-old singer-actor’s most recent online hiatus came in January amid the Golden Globes controversy involving her, Taylor Swift, Kylie Jenner and Timothee Chalamet.

“I'm off social for a while. I'm focusing on what really matters,” she made the announcement via a reel featuring her boyfriend Benny Blanco playing with children.

Speaking on the topic during the Time 100 Summit on Wednesday, the Single Soon hitmaker said, "Well, I took four years off of Instagram, and I let my team post for me for those years. I felt like it was the most rewarding gift I gave myself."

She added, “I think people, especially young kids, it's - you're sitting there so focused on what looks wonderful when everything that's meant to be wonderful to you is not from here.”

Selena also revealed that she likes to take a break because she finds herself “more present” and “happier” during that time.

“I would actually get real phone calls about people telling me about their story, and I could actually hear it instead of going, ‘Oh, I already know what you did today.’ It's, like, more human,” she explained.

The Only Murderers in the Building star now finds handling her own Instagram account “frustrating” at times.

“I just - I find it frustrating and then I get a little mouthy, and I wanna defend people I love. So I try to...I don't really pay much attention. I'll just do things here and there,” Selena concluded.
