Smartphone addiction has become a widespread issue among Americans, as most of their daily life activities involve the use of their phones.

People spend most of their time in front of a 4-to-5-inch screen in their hands which has social apps like Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok and work-related apps like Slack, Google, Microsoft, and Zoom, embedded into them.

This has resulted in a serious spike in humans' dependence on a smartphone over the past decade which has been highlighted in a recent study.

The 2023 study has revealed that people in the United States checked their phones 144 times a day, USA Today reported, adding that 90% of respondents check their phone within the first 10 minutes of waking up.

So how can you break away from this addiction that keeps you engaged for an entire day?

American radio personality Kim Komando, suggests that instead of running to pick up your phone every time it pings, smartphone users should turn on the "Do Not Disturb" feature on weekends, vacations, and holidays to spend time with the people you care about.

Limit your screen times

She further suggested that if the previous option doesn't help, you can have your phone monitor your usage for you.

She says thatsmartphone users cantime limits for apps they often use to reduce the amount of time spent on them each day using the "Screen Time" function in iPhone settings and the "Digital Well-Being" app in Android.

Due to the lock-out mechanism created by these features, you won't be able to use the app until the next day.
