Meta-owned Whatsapp has introduced a new feature that aims to simplify the process of organising virtual and in-person events for groups, The Verge reported.

The new feature, called "Events", allows members of a group to set up meetings, parties, and other events, much like e-vite services that send out invitations via email.

The feature gets pined to the group's information page and has its own chat thread, enabling members to see who is attending the event, who is not, and who will be bringing refreshments.

The Verge added that the messaging app has also added the the ability to reply to "Announcement Groups" to enable members to provide feedback and comments.

Additionally, it also mutes the conversation and minimises replies so that users can read the debate and contribute without bothering other users with constant notifications.

The new feature will first appear on WhatsApp Communities before rolling out to all groups in the coming months.

WhatsApp's Communities is a Slack or Discord-like feature that has its own message threads, group admins, and announcement functions, while also taking advantage of WhatsApp’s 32-person video calling capabilities.
