ISLAMABAD: The Parliamentary on National Security (PCNS) was not consulted over the release of Taliban prisoners to Afghanistan.

According to sources, PCNS has called for a briefing from the Defence, Foreign Ministries and DG ISI. A letter was written by the PCNS which calls for the committee to be taken into confidence and briefed regarding talks with Taliban.

Pakistan has released Afghan Taliban prisoners in a bid to boost the peace process with Afghanistan. Afghan peace negotiators have welcomed the measure stating that this underlines Pakistan’s support for talks with the Taliban as US led NATO combat troops withdraw from Afghanistan.
