JOHANNESBURG: Young batsman Asad Shafiq and captain Misbah-ul-Haq displayed a great fight-back while Pakistan were chasing an improbable target of 480 runs to win the match against South Africa.
Pakistan were struggling on 183 for four at stumps on third day of the first Test here at the New Wanderers Stadium on Sunday.
Asad who completed his seventh Test fifty was batting on 53 while Misbah remained not out on 44.
Earlier, opener Nasir Jamshed made 44 and failed to reach his half-century on his Test debut by six runs.
South Africa who did not make Pakistan to play follow-on after bowling out them for their record lowest of 49, resumed their second innings today at 207-3.
They added 68 runs without losing any wicket and declared the innings at 275-3 after AB de Villiers completed his 15th Test century while Hashim Amla was not on 74 at the other end.
Both added 176 runs for an unbeaten fourth wicket partnership.
