ISLAMABAD: The Parliamentary Committee has only a few hours left to appoint a caretaker prime minister before the matter is sent to the Election Commission of Pakistan.

The third meeting of the committee is underway as representatives from the government and opposition have yet to reach a consensus on the decision.

Member of the committee, Khursheed Shah said rules had been created and no PCO judge would be a candidate. He added that the ball was in no one’s court but was rather in the middle.

Meanwhile, Farooq Naek was hopeful that a decision would be reached and if the committee reached a consensus the announced would be made today (Friday).

The government has nominated Justice (retd) Mir Hazar Khan Khoso and Dr Ishrat Husain while the opposition has nominated Justice (retd) Nasir Alsam Zahid and Rasool Bux Palijo for the post.

The Election Commission will have two days to appoint a caretaker prime minister if the committee fails to make a decision.
