Denis Villeneuve reveals if 'Dune: Part 3' will be last in sci fi series

Denis Villeneuve says Dune: Part Three will be his last installment in the sci-fi epic series starring Timothée Chalamet and Zendaya in lead roles.

In an interview with TheWrap, Villeneuve reflected on working on Dune: Part Two and how it left him feeling.

“I think my biggest surprise about this is that I don’t want to run away from Arrakis,” he said. “I’m still inspired to go back. That’s the thing that I was the most surprised by. I felt that after Part Two, I would need a break. I thought that I would want to go write a few films or do a couple of things before going back to Dune: Messiah. But the images that kept coming back to my mind, the appetite is absolutely intact. That’s the biggest surprise. I still want to go back to Arrakis.”

When asked if he wants to return to Arrakis “just one more time”, he said: “Yes. After that, it would become unhealthy.”

Dune: Part Three is expected to be based on Dune Messiah, the 1969 novel by Frank Herbert which will continue Paul Atriedes’ journey after he becomes the Freeman messiah dubbed Mahdi.
