Emilia Perez star has made a surprising Oscars history in 2025.
Karla Sofia Gascon has become the first openly trans acting nominee in the category of Best Actress.
The actress earned nominations alongside famous actresses like Cynthia Erivo for Wicked, Mikey Madison for Anora, Demi Moore for The Substance and Fernanda Torres for I’m Still Here.
Additionally, the Netflix film earned several nominations in the categories like for Best Picture, Best Director Jacques Audiard, Best Supporting Actress Zoe Saldana, and Best International Feature.
Speaking about the film, Gascon, who made her debut in Emilia Perez, told Tudum in 2024 that “You have an action movie that’s not an action movie, a drama that’s not a drama, a comedy that’s not a comedy.”

It is worth mentioning that the prestigious award ceremony is scheduled to take place at the Dolby Theatre at Ovation Hollywood on Sunday, March 2.
