HARNAI: At least ten people sustained injuries after a barrage of rockets fired from vantage points on the nearby mountains landed near Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) election rally here in Harnai, a city in the restive province of Balochistan.

Reports have it that a JUI-F rally was in full swing in Sarghar area of Harnai, when unknown assailants targeted it with at least ten rockets.

As luck would have it the rockets fired either overshot or undershot the target reducing casualties to a minimum. Had even one of them been a direct hit casualties would have been far higher.

Heavy shooting was also reported to have followed the volley of rockets, however who were the shooters and who they were firing at is yet unascertained.

Sources said the rally turned into a stampede after the rockets started raining around the venue with loud bangs as all the participants started running for their lives in all directions.

The injured, some of them critical, were shifted to a local hospital.

JUI-F's central leader and Balochistan Ameer, Maulana Mohammad Khan Shirani was about to address the rally when the rockets struck, sources said.

More details are awaited.
