KARACHI: At least eight people were injured when a blast struck near Muttahida Qaumi Movement's (MQM) sector office at Burns road, the famous food street of the metropolis, Geo News reported Thursday.
Police and Rangers rushed to the spot and cordoned off the crime scene.
Rescue and emergency response teams also reached the blast site and started shifting the injured to Civil Hospital Karachi where emergency has been issued.
The blast sent a wave of panic in the neighbourhood where businesses and shops, most of them selling eatables pulled their shutters immediately after the blast.
According to DIG South, the blast took place near the sector office of MQM and Masjid Babul Islam which are located next to each other, damaging their structures.
This is the fourth terrorist attack on MQM whose workers and candidates have been facing a string of deadly assaults in the run-up to May 11 general elections.
Awami National Party (ANP) and Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) have also faced similar attacks following explicit threats from Tehreek-e- Taliban Pakistani (TTP).
DSP Preedy Zameer Abbasi said 2-3 kilograms of explosives attached with a time device were blown up to cause the blast. He said that no evidence of ball bearings’ use was found from the site of the blast.
