Ex- JI Nazim gunned down in Karachi

KARACHI: Abid Ilyas, a former UC Nazim of Jamaat-e-Islami, was shot dead by unknown armed men in Nazimabad area of the city late night.

Police said that former UC Nazim of Liaquatabad was gunned down in Nazimanad-2 area of the city.

His body has been shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for medico-legal formalities. JI leader Muhammad Hussain Mehnti rushed to the medical facility and condemned the killing of his party leader.

He said that Ilyas house was also attacked a few days ago. Mehnti said that the killing was aimed at stopping ongoing protests against poll rigging in Karachi.

He said that the protest would continue despite the threats.
