RAWALPINDI: Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani said Monday the nation had defeated the misleading fringe minority by voting in the general elections.

Addressing a symposium on Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), Army Chief Kayani said the Pakistani people despite the threat of terrorism headed to the polls on May 11. “The Pakistani people have proven that they are moderate, brave and hard working.”

Kayani added, 'together we will overcome the challenges being faced by the nation'.

He said Pakistan had adopted a number measures to put an end to the production and use of IEDs and underscored the need to form a regional forum to put a check on it.

The COAS said he was committed to the cause of country’s prosperity and supremacy of the rule of law.

The symposium was attended by the delegates from Pakistan, US and Britain besides 28 other countries.
