LAHORE: Measles on Saturday claimed two more lives, raising the number of deaths to 146 in the province.

According to health department officials, Talha, 8 died at Children Hospital Lahore while Zainab, 24 died at Allied Hospital, Faisalabad.

As many as 201 new cases of measles were reported from Punjab including 40 from Lahore hospitals increasing the total number of cases to 16, 620 during the last six months.

Meanwhile, Director General Health Services Punjab Dr Tanveer Ahmed said that during investigation it was found that a majority of deaths in Lahore were caused by severe pneumonia and delay in reaching hospitals.

He urged the people to cooperate with the vaccinators and contact doctors without any delay in case of symptoms of measles in their children. (APP)
