Blake Shelton reflects on how his career changed after his 'The Voice' exit

Blake Shelton weighs in on his career after 'The Voice'

Blake Shelton featured in The Voice’s 23 seasons. It was a long period.

The musician also felt the same way when he told People, “It took about a year before I even was open to the idea of, 'What's next?'"

But the 48-year-old said a call from Post Malone made him collaborate with him on Pour Me a Drink.

At the time, the country musician said he was spending time with his family while working with the Sunflower rapper.

The track became a hit, and it "lit a fire under me," he said. This led him to make his 13th album, Recreational Use Only, which will be out on May 9.

"I've always been a nerd for country music stats. Early on I thought it was important to know these things about my heroes," he added.

"Now to have my own chapter where I can go, 'Man, this is my catalog and my legacy.' . . . It really is exciting."

Elsewhere in the interview, Blake looked back at his life, saying, "After 25 years of doing this, and the ups and downs, I don't feel like I have anything to prove anymore."

"I used to be almost afraid of my success because I was afraid of losing it somehow. Maybe the worry kept me working hard and focused — but now it's just fun for me," he concluded.
