KARACHI: A cracker attack outside Pakistan Air Force (PAF) Base Faisal near Karsaz area of metropolis Sunday left at least three PAF security guards injured, Geo News reported.

Earlier, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) East in a statement issued here claimed that it was a hand-grenade attack, however a PAF spokesman later declared it a cracker blast.

"The PAF Base Faisal was the apparent target of the attack as the grenade lobbed by the unknown assailants hit the boundary wall of the base and exploded", said the SSP East.

A PAF spokesman said miscreants hurled a cracker near a check post at the main gate of the air base around 08:10 PM. The security men standing on guard at the post sustained minor injures in the explosion, he added.

"The injured guards were rushed to the hospital and were discharged after first aid", said he.

According to initial reports the moderate intensity blast was suspected to be either an improvised explosive device (IED) or a crudely made cracker (bomb).

Rescuers and law enforces are on their way to the blast site located on Karachi's main artery Shara-e-Faisal.
