In a country where socially sanctioned rules define how women may sit as passengers on motorcycles, it will be nothing less than a giant social leap to see female riders gliding through the Karachi roads as authorities have started issuing licences to women riders.

Riding the two-wheeler is an international norm as the economic automobile is relatively easier to drive through heavy city traffic besides occupying lesser parking space.

In the ‘neighbouring country’ elder women also ride motorbikes for domestic and official use besides younger women, who use the two-wheelers to go colleges and universities.

The hesitation associated with the action was reduced to some extent when women police officials were provided with heavy bikes in Pakistan earlier this year.

DIG Traffic Police Karachi, Dr Ameer Sheikh says that the law of the land does not bar women from riding motorcycles, adding that a separate branch of licence office would be built for women if the need to do so arises in future.

Therefore, girls get your licences made and grab your helmets to enjoy the economical and comfy ride.
