ISLAMABAD: A proscribed militant group has claimed responsibility for the abduction of Ali Haider Gilani, a son of former prime minister Yousaf Raza Gilani.

He was kidnapped on May 2 during election campaign in Multan. Abu Yazeed, a spokesman for the outfit calling itself Al-Mansooreen Brigade said that Ali Haider Gilani was in their custody and was safe.

According to a news agency the spokesman was calling from an Afghan phone number. He added that the group would soon release a video of Gillani shortly after Eid to apprise about their demands.
