ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Tuesday sought explanation from Secretary National Food Security and Secretary Information regarding the recently announced Prime Minister's Kisan (farmers) Package.
According to sources, both the secretaries have been directed to submit all details related to code of conduct and Kisan Package to ECP.
Talking to the media at ECP headquarters, Secretary ECP Babar Yaqoob Fateh Muhammad has said that an answer has been sought from Secretary National Food Security regarding the recently announced Kisan Package and code of conduct.
He said that the Secretary Information has also been summoned for explanation of advertisements regarding the Kisan Package that are being portrayed in the media.
Secretary ECP ordered both secretaries to appear before ECP and convince the institution that the announcement was not a violation of the code of conduct.
He added that he has written a letter to PEMRA directing them to ensure that all political parties get equal coverage in all media groups and make sure that no media group shows any bias towards any political party.
PEMRA has also been directed to submit a report on media coverage of the local body elections.
Secretary ECP further said that a notice has been taken of the complaints filed by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) candidate Jahangir Tareen in NA-154 and a decision will be taken after reviewing the complaints.
