Source lifts the curtain on behind-the-scenes chaos surrounding Jimmy Kimmel's show

The reason behind the fallout that led to the sudden shutdown of Jimmy Kimmel’s late-night show after his remarks about Charlie Kirk’s assassination comes to light.

For those unaware, ABC suspended the 57-year-old American television host and comedian’s show Jimmy Kimmel Live! from September 17 through September 22, 2025, after he made statements about the murder of conservative activist Kirk that sparked severe backlash.

In the September 14 monologue of his show, Kimmel quipped that the "MAGA gang" was using Kirk’s assassination to gain political points, which prompted ABC to make a tough decision to pull out his son and Nexstar Media, one of the country’s biggest TV station owners, also announced that it would stop airing the late-night show.

On September 17, Nexstar Media stated that it "strongly objects to recent comments made by Mr. Kimmel concerning the killing of Charlie Kirk and will replace the show with other programming in its ABC-affiliated markets."

However, before Kimmel’s show bore the consequences of his remarks, the show was already, per an insider of Radar Online.

"Jimmy was walking around saying he doesn't have much time left in the business, that the whole genre is changing, but the feeling came across as insensitive to the staff," the source said.

Despite lifting the ban from Kimmel’s show after a week of hiatus, if ABC again decides to suspend his show, “the people who work for him, the writers, the cameramen, the musicians, assistants and so many others, most of them are living paycheck to paycheck and need the work. The show ending would be devastating for them,” the insider remarked.
