ABU DHABI: South Africa, facing defeat, were 72-4 at close on the third day of the first Test against Pakistan at Sheikh Zayed Stadium on Wednesday.
AB de Villiers on 11 and Dale Steyn on nought were the unbeaten batsmen at the crease as South Africa needed another 121 runs to avoid an innings defeat after Pakistan scored a mammoth 442 in their first innings for a lead of 193.
Misbah-ul Haq scored 100 while Khurram Manzoor made 146. Vernon Philander and Steyn took three wickets apiece.
