MOHALI: James Faulkner smashed Ishant Sharma for 30 runs in the 48th over of the Australian innings handed over the visitors a sensational four-wicket victory over India in the third One-day International here at the Punjab Cricket Association ground on Saturday.

He finished with an unbeaten 64 off just 29 balls with six towering sixes and two fours, giving Australia a 2-1 lead in the seven-match series.

Chasing 304, Australia needed 44 runs in the last three overs when India’s captain MS Dhoni brought back Ishant Sharma into the attack and Faulkner took the paceman to the cleaners from the outset, hitting four sixes and a four, plus a couple more in the over, which sealed the match in the visitors' favour.

Earlier India sent into bat by Australia captain George Bailey, made an imposing total of 303 for nine with Dhoni smashing an unbeaten 139 from 121 balls with twelve fours and five sixes.

However Australia chased the huge target completing their thrilling victory with three balls to spare.

Adam Voges top scored with an unbeaten 76 off 88 balls along with Faulkner.
