KANPUR: Shikhar Dhawan notched a century as India beat West Indies by five wickets in the deciding match of their one-day series.

The tourists hit 263-5 in Kanpur on Wednesday but, helped by Dhawan's 119, India easily chased the total down with 23 balls to spare.

Skipper MS Dhoni struck the winning runs as India took the series 2-1, having also won both Test matches that preceded the 50-over action.

Having won the toss and inserted the tourists, India made an early breakthrough as Bhuvneshwar Kumar bowled Johnson Charles for 11 in the fifth over.

But any hopes local fans had that would open the floodgates were resolutely thwarted by Kieran Powell and Marlon Samuels who put on a century stand for the second wicket.

It was Powell who eventually departed first for 70 after a partnership of 117, as he holed out to Dhawan off the bowling of Ravichandran Ashwin.

They had reached to 164-2 by the time the batting powerplay was taken and appeared well-placed to push on, but three quick wickets took the momentum out of the innings.
