MELBOURNE: Cricket Australia said Thursday that former national women´s captain Mary Loy died this week at the age of 88.

Loy, whose maiden name was Allitt, made her debut against England in 1951 and represented Australia in 11 tests, including three as captain in 1963.

She was a top-order right-hand bat and made her highest score of 76 against England in 1963.On the 1963 tour, Loy and the Australians became the first women´s team to be invited by the Marylebone Cricket Club to dine with committee members in the Long Room at Lord´s. (AP)
