Karachi: Deputy Project Manager Expended Program on Immunization (EPI) Sindh Dr Duray Naaz on Tuesday said polio campaign has resumed in high-risk Union Councils (UC) of Karachi from 10th February 2014.
She told PPI here that EPI has launched polio campaign in high-risk UCs of city where the security is provided to polio teams by police. She said EPI has changed its plan this time and started vaccination in about 40 high-risk UCs of city in phase-wise manner. She informed that initially the polio drive was carried out in Gulberg Town, UC-8 yesterday.
She said polio teams administered e vaccination to children in three UCs of Keamari and Baldia Town area on 11th February. She said polio drive would continue in all 40 high-risk UCs of city till the completion of drive. She said provincial government has assured full security to polio teams in high-risk areas till its success.
She said generally polio drive covers all areas of city in three day but due to security concern the phase-wise polio drive has been started in the city. She said campaign has been launched in high-risk UCs of Gadap, Baldia, Landhi, Orangi, Bin Qasim, Orangi and Keamari town areas.
She said all children under five years of age must be vaccinated at all costs, adding we should speed up efforts to ensure a positive result during this particular campaign. She stressed the need to provide complete police security to the polio teams in order to make a successful campaign in high risk areas of Karachi.
