BANGUI: Heavy gunfire and explosions from rockets and grenades erupted Wednesday at the airport in the Central African Republic´s capital Bangui where protesters have erected barricades against international forces based there, an AFP correspondent said.

Bullets whistled past French soldiers guarding the main entrance to the airport, the correspondent said.
