ISLAMABAD: In Tharparkar, relief activities are in full swing and initial assessment is underway to target inadequacies.
National Disaster Management Authority is acting as a focal point for all agencies, Government departments and civil society to mount a national response.
Relief distribution is being done through a joint mechanism of all agencies and four sectors of food, water, health and livestock are under focus.
National Disaster Management Authority has dispatched 10,000 food packs for the famine hit people of the area.
Around 1404.63 tons of wheat bags, 1277.9 tons of food packs, 1,551 tons of rice, one hundred forty thousand mineral water bottles, 15000 packets of biscuits and 5000 packets of high-energy biscuits have reached the affected area while a sizable amount of miscellaneous food items are enroute.
Forty medical officers and paramedic staff have reached the area from Hyderabad and other districts with necessary supply of medicines.
Sindh government has also released 30 million rupees to the District Hospital Mitthi for purchase of medicines and medical equipment.
Teams of NDMA officers led by its Member Operations Brig. Mirza Kamran Zia have already reached Tharparkar and are coordinating with various agencies on ground.
Collection points are being established at various locations and relief is being channelized through various quarters to the areas.
