CHITTAGONG: Sri Lanka defeated Netherlands by nine wickets in a low-scoring match in Group-1 of the Super Ten Series in the World Twenty20 here at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium on Monday.

After bowling out Netherlands for the lowest ever T20 total of 39, Sri Lanka completed the easy chase in only five overs.

Tillekaratne Dilshan and Mahela Jayawardene remained not out on 12 and 11, respectively after Kusal Perera was dismissed by Ahsan Malik for 14.

Earlier, Tom Cooper top scored with 16 as no other batsman could reach the double figures as Netherlands were bundled out for 39 in 10.3 overs. Their four batsmen, including both openers, were dismissed for zero.

For Sri Lanka, off-spinner Ajantha Mendis and pacer Angelo Mathews captured three wickets apiece for 12 and 16, respectively while fast bowler Lasith Malinga took two for five and Nuwan Kulasekara got 1-0.
