NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Wednesday said that there is no need for a CBI or a SIT investigation into the Muzaffarnagar communal riots "at this juncture".

The SC also said the state government was responsible for initial negligence when the riots broke out and asked it to take more effective measures.

The apex court also pulled up the central and state intelligence agencies for not alerting the Uttar Pradesh government on the impending riots.

It ruled that all accused persons named in the Muzaffarnagar communal violence cases must be arrested irrespective of their political affiliation.
