LONDON: The captain of England´s women´s team has become only the second female to be included among Wisden´s Five Cricketers of the Year, an annual award by the world´s most prestigious cricket publication.
Charlotte Edwards was joined on the 2013 list by Australia players Ryan Harris and Chris Rogers, India opener Shikhar Dhawan and England batsman Joe Root.
Edwards´ compatriot, Claire Taylor, was the first woman to be given the honor in the Wisden Cricketers´ Almanack in 2009.
Edwards led England to back-to-back Ashes victories over Australia home and away in a six-month span.
Wisden´s selection criteria are based on players´ performances during the English summer season. Being one of the five Cricketers of the Year is the oldest individual honor in cricket. (AP)
