KARACHI: Commissioner Karachi Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui said on Friday that 111 profiteers were fined for selling edibles at prices above government rates.
He said that crackdown on illegal profiteers and food adulterators was underway.
The fine charged from 111 shopkeepers was Rs 217, 000 who were selling milk, flour, vegetables, pulses, meat, fruits, chicken and other items of basic utilities at rates higher than fixed by the government.
Siddiqui said that crackdown against profiteers was carried out in Gulberg, North Nazimabad, Liaquatabad, Korangi, Shah Faisal, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Orangi and New Karachi.
The commissioner further said that as a result of crackdown throughout the city 92 milkmen, 02 utility store keepers were fined while 07 milkmen were sent to jail for continuous violation.
Crackdown against profiteers and food adulterators will continue until they get rid of their wrongdoings and ensure provision of food items to citizens at government rates, he said. (PPI)
