MEXICO CITY: A 6.8 magnitude earthquake struck Mexico Thursday, causing buildings to sway in Mexico City and sending people fleeing into the streets.

The US Geological Survey said on its website the quake occurred 13 kilometers west-southwest of Tecpan de Galeana, south of Mexico City.
