DALLAS:Texas Democratic Party state convention was held at Dallas Convention Center in downtown Dallas.

Delegates from all senatorial districts and all counties converged into Dallas for the three day convention.

A special gala event was hosted by Muslim Democratic Caucus of Texas on the inaugural day of the convention.

The event was a cultural show, highlighting the diverse culture of Muslims in Texas.

Muslim Democratic Caucus of Texas, using this opportunity presented a cultural program to present Muslim’s profile of cultural richness, diversity and inter racial harmony.

They provided all the convention delegates, an opportunity to see Muslims from close and educate themselves on lives of a common Muslim.

The event presented by MDC of Texas was full of color, poetry, music; folk dance. Cultural presentations were showcased to educate Texans of the richness of Muslim culture and traditions.

Exhibits of Muslim countries including Pakistan, Iran, Turkey, Palestine and various African countries were also on display.

American Muslim Democratic Caucus Co-Chairman Syed Fayyaz Hassan and Muslim Democratic Caucus of Texas President Aftab Siddiqui earlier thanked the Texas Democratic Party Chairman Gilberto Hinojosa and Congressman Mark Veasey for their leadership and inclusiveness.

Chairman Hinojosa praised the leadership of Muslim Caucus for hosting such an impressive event.

He said the Democratic Party is a party of working middle class and our struggle is for a rightful and honorable place for them in society.

He said that the dreams of change in people lives can be realized in a blue Texas and blue America.

A renowned Muslim community leader Amir Makhani presented a shield of appreciation to chairman Hinojosa.

Speaking to the gathering Congressman Mark Veasey said that it is unfortunate that because of Republican leadership millions of Texans are denied the basic health coverage, as Texas Governor has refused to adopt “Affordable Care Act”.

He said the change will come when Senator Wendy Davis will be elected the Governor of state of Texas.

He said that Texas is waiting for this change for some times. The event also had a beautiful Pakistani exhibit presented by Pakistan American Association of Texas (PAAT) which included artifacts, paintings and antiques representing Pakistani culture.

A large number of convention delegates and visitors enjoyed the presentations. Pakistan Christian Cultural Society leaders Javed, Bakhtawar and Erum Samuel presented a special performance with Sitar and Tabla, dancers and musicians from West Africa presented their presentation of folk and popular African music.

However, the folk Dabka Dance from Palestinian youth group of Al-Mustaqbil was the performance where the local party leaders and guest also got in to the dance and music.

A hear touching poem from young Noor Wadi brought tears in people’s eyes. Johnny Wolfe presented poems by Rumi. Amer Zahr, a Palestinian stand up comedian from Chicago ended the program with laughters. He portrayed plight of Muslims in America media bias against Muslims and Arabs. Aisha U-Kiu and ASmeer Jamal conducted this historic first event where Muslims presented a major presentation in a state convention


A large number of official candidacies were announced and accepted on the second day of the convention. These candidates will be facing the contest with Republicans in November 2014 elections.


Muslim Democratic Caucus had their caucus meeting on the second day of convention where a large number of candidates from judicial positions to congress, spoke to Muslims for their support and help. MDCTX board was also elected for next two years among those elected were Syed Fayyaz Hassan, Aftab Siddiqui, Amir Rahman, Tariq Jaffery, Amina Ismail, Zahid Khanzada, Melissa Walker, Nargis Ahmed, Amir Makhani M Emad Salem and others
