COLOMBO: The 6th Sri Lanka International Scrabble Championship came to an end after three thrilling days of contests at Colombo with a predictable result.
World Champion Nigel Richards made his trademark comeback to take the title after having fallen behind at the end of day two.
Compatriot Howard Warner completed New Zealand's dominance by taking the runner up trophy.
Young Sherwin Rodrigues of India finished third.
Pakistan's hopes lied with Waseem Khatri and Moiz Baig and both didn't disappoint. Waseem had a great day winning 6 of his last 8 matches to take the 4th position. This was the best finish for Waseem in any international tournament.
Young Moiz playing the first adult level international tournament of his life finished 8th; a remarkable performance by the 17 year old.
The tournament provided great practice to the young Pakistani players who are in Colombo to take part in the World Youth Scrabble Championship which starts from 29th.
The second event of the Sri Lanka Scrabble Festival, the World Senior Scrabble Championship will start from 26th. Players aged 55 and above are eligible.
The Pakistani players will be taking part in the side tournament for younger players.
