SYDNEY: The International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) has condemned the latest attack on the Geo News office in Islamabad.
IFJ Project Coordinator Asia Pacific, Alex Hearne said the organisation was concerned with the recent attacks and treatment of journalists and media workers in Pakistan. The IFJ has written letters to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and leaders of PTI and PAT condemning such attacks.
On Sunday night, a group of people participating in the ongoing sit-ins in Islamabad gathered in front of the Geo News office and pelted it with stones, shattering windows of the building and cars parked outside.
This is not the first attack on the office of Geo News in Islamabad which was also targeted when the protestors marched towards the PM House.
Reporters and cameramen were also attacked with soft drink bottles as they covered the protest sit-in of PTI.
A female reporter had also been threatened by some participants of the sit-in while another reporter’s mic was snatched during the coverage.
