KARACHI: Two people lost their lives and seven others including SSP Special Investigation Unit (SIU) Farooq Awan were injured when an explosives-laden vehicle rammed into a police van in DHA Phase-4, Karachi.
According to sources, a Suzuki pick up laden with 100 kilograms of explosives, that was parked at the blast site, was detonated with a remote control when SSP Farooq Awan’s vehicle drove past it. The blast completely destroyed his vehicle.
SSP Farooq Awan who had received minor injuries reached the hospital on foot where he was provided necessary medical treatment.
This was the second attack on SSP Awan. In the first attack, which had taken place at Sohrab Goth in 2010, he had sustained bullet wounds on his leg.
Sources said SSP SIU Farooq Awan was on a hit-list of a proscribed outfit and he had also informed his superiors about the threats to his life.
