ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan announced on Saturday that mobile phone services in sensitive areas of Pakistan may be suspended on 9-10 Moharram (Monday-Tuesday).
Nisar said the government had made a decision of being on high-alert on Youm-e-Ashura to ensure law and order.
According to Nisar, 32,695 security contingents will be deployed in 55 districts across the country. Twelve helicopters will also be deployed for aerial surveillance.
The Sindh Home Department has requested the federal government to have cellular phone service suspended for three days –8 to 10 Moharram – in five districts including Karachi.
