ISLAMABAD: The Standing Committee on Law and Parliamentary Affairs Wednesday unanimously passed the Delimitation of Constituencies (amendment) bill, 2011.
After the apprval by Senate it would bring the provisions of Delimitation of Constituencies Act, 1974 in conformity with Articles 51, 106 and 208 of the constitution as amended by the constitution (18th amendment) act, 2010.
Earlier, Chairman Senate, Farooq H. Naek had referred the bill to the senate body.
The National Assembly had already passed the bill under Article 70(2) of the Constitution, which was moved by Federal Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs, Moula Bakhsh Chandio.
The bill proposes that on the basis of the population a total of 17 seats including 14 general and 3 women should be allocated to Balochistan province in the National Assembly
Similarly, KPK should be given a total 43 seats including 35 general and 8 women seats, Punjab 183 including 148 general and 35 women, Sindh 75 including 61 general and 14 women, FATA a total 12 seats and Federal Capital two seats in the National Assembly.
