Justice Shakirullah takes oath as acting CEC

ISLAMABAD: The senior most judge of the Supreme Court (SC) Justice Mian Shakirullah Jan took oath as the acting Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Saturday, Geo News reported.

Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry took oath from Justice Shakirullah in a ceremony held at Old Governor House, Murree.

It is worth mentioning here that Chief Election Commissioner Justice (retd) Hamid Ali Mirza has completed his tenure on March 23.

On Thursday Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, under Article 217 of the Constitution, nominated Justice Shakirullah Jan as the acting CEC after Justice (retd) Hamid Ali Mirza completed his tenure on March 23.

Chief Justice said that the nomination of acting CEC would be automatically removed after the appointment of new CEC.
