Loadshedding protest in Lahore turns violent, one killed

LAHORE: A man was shot dead in Daroghawala area of Lahore during protests against loadshedding on Monday, Geo News reported.

Protesters were holding a demonstration against prolonged hours of loadshedding in Daroghawala area when the guard of a petrol station opened fire during a scuffle between the owners and protestors. The firing killed one of the protestors.

According to the police the guard has been taken into custody and investigations are underway.

Following the incident the road was blocked by protestors for several hours and clashes continued with the police.

Later the protesters moved to Shalimar Chowk and continued to burn tyres and block traffic. They also chanted slogans against the government.

Protests were also held in several other areas of the city.
