PESHAWAR: Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry on Saturday said that the lawyers' movement had put more responsibility on the shoulders of judiciary and that no other system than the one given in the Constitution would be acceptable in the country.
"Everyone will need to extend support to one another for ensuring supremacy of the law and Constitution in the country," the Chief Justice said while addressing a gathering at a programme held under the auspices of Peshawar High Court Bar Association.
He said the poor and rich were equal in the eye of law and that lawyers were putting in their efforts to protect democracy.
The Chief Justice lauded the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for fighting the war by being in the front line and rendering countless sacrifices for the country's survival.
He said the subordinate judiciary's performance had registered improvement in the country and termed its role as exemplary in disposing of cases.
