ISLAMABAD: Mansoor Ijaz, the cardinal character in the memogate scandal, has entreated with the memo commission to strip Husain Haqqani of his rights to testify as well as legal representation, Geo News reported.

Mansoor Ijaz’s counsel Akram Shaikh, in the petition filed argued that Haqqani, the esrtwhile envoy to US, was continuously defying the directives of the commission formed to probe the memo scandal, thus he should not have those rights anymore.

The petitioner’s counsel also said that Haqqani had not yet produced the exhibits before the commission he was supposed to which included pictures, BlackBerry phones along with pin numbers, SMS/email data, etc.

Earlier, Hussain Haqqani’s lawyer, Zahid Bukhari said that his client had written to BlackBerry maker, Research in Motion (RIM), for the acquisition of his phone data, in compliance with the orders of the judicial commission.

RIM, in the letter written, has been requested it to disparch the BlackBerry data either to Haqqani or his counsel Zahid Bukhari.

Bukhari said that Haqqani had decided to write the letter after holding consultations with his lawyers and he would continue to implement every legal order of the commission.

Memo commission would now meet on Thursday (tomorrow) where Hussain Haqqani has also been summoned.
