RAWALPINDI: Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani Friday categorically stated that Army is committed to bringing peace and development in the area of Dir.
During his visit to Panakot, Dir, he met the local elders and thanked them for their support, emphasizing the need for enduring partnership between Army and local population for bringing complete normalcy in the area.
He stressed that Army units deployed there will not leave till terrorists are defeated and smooth transition of responsibility to civil administration takes place.
According to ISPR here, the COAS was briefed about the latest situation at Dir, with particular emphasis on measures being adopted against the threat posed by miscreants operating from safe havens across the border.
While interacting with officers and men, he praised their high morale and sense of sacrifice.
On arrival, the COAS was received by Commander Peshawar Corps, Lieutenant General Khalid Rabbani and other senior officers.
