KARACHI: During the week ending July 19 as compared to the previous year food inflation was recorded at 7.95 percent, according to the Pakistan statistics department data made available here, Geo News reported.
The data relating to price-hikes released on the first day of the holy month of Ramazan showed that the prices of gram pulse shot up by 50 percent, while that of banana by 75 percent during the last one year. It further said that the onion price soared by 58 percent, red chili powder by 18 percent, powder milk by 25 percent, cooking oil by 11 percent and flour by about 5 percent during one year.
Analysts said that the supply of kitchen items needs a boost in a bid to control the spiraling food inflation besides effective price control measures discouraging profiteers fleecing the poor consumers
