Peshawar: Insurgents attack police checkpoint

PESHAWAR: Unknown insurgents attacked a police check post here in a Peshawar suburb late Sunday night, but were repelled by the security personnel before they could do any harm, Geo News reported.

According to sources, heavily armed assailants swooped down on a police checkpoint located in Bara Shaikhan area of Peshawar and opened fire, however, a prompt retaliation from the cops forced the attackers to head for the hills.

No casualties were reported, said the sources.

A backup was called in immediately for a manhunt to be launched for the aggressors, they added.
