JAIPUR: Heavy rains over the past four days have killed at least 33 people and left thousands homeless in India’s Rajasthan state.
Torrential rains that began on Tuesday night have led to flooding in the normally arid state, throwing normal life out of gear. The death toll in rain-related accidents climbed to 33 in 12 districts. Jaipur reported the highest number of deaths.
The civil administration in Sikar, Churu, Jhunjhunu, Dholpur, Bharatpur, Karoli and Dausa was struggling to provide relief with many low-lying areas in these districts as well as in Jaipur.
The Army was deployed in Madrampura and in Laxmangarh tehsil in Sikar district.
The state's meteorological department said the capital city of Jaipur was experiencing its heaviest rains since 1981.
