KARACHI: A fierce fire that broke out at a cooking oil mill located in Shershah industrial cluster in SITE area here, could not be tamed even after seven hours, Geo News reported.
According to reports, city’s fire department with all its fire tenders has been called in to fight the fire, which has now worsened into a third degree blaze.
The inferno, which has been cooking the oil mill’s filling department for more than seven long hours now, is far from under control even in the face of drastic firefighting.
Hundreds of tonnes of raw and processed cooking oil present in the mill is adding fuel to the fire, sources told Geo News.
However, no casualties have been reported as yet except for firemen, who kept on swooning after they tried to enter the suffocating smoke-filled building.
The rescuers, who sustained injuries in the line of duty, were rushed to hospital.
Governor Sindh Dr Ishratul Ebad took notice of the inferno and instructed the relevant department to take appropriate steps to control the situation.
Administrator of Karachi Mohammad Hussain was also present at the site and expressed fear that the oil tanks inside the burning factory can explode due to blaze. He issued orders to vacate the nearby factories.
