High flood in Kirthar canal; people start migration

LARKANA: A high flood flowing from Kohe Suleman has entered Sindh and Balochistan provinces via Kirthar Canal and swept away 5 flood gates of RBOD and made its way into Seem Canal, forcing the dwellers of surrounding areas to migrate.

The devastations from flash floods of Kohe Suleman have not seen a let up, as the flood water has now entered the border areas of Sindh and Balochistan provinces via Kirthar Canal after traveling through Dere Ghazi Khan, Rajanpur, Jaffarabad and Nasirabad.

Residents of the rural parts of Osta Muhammad and Garhi Khero have started migrating to safer places.

The flood water has washed away 5 flood gates of RBOD and it is now entering at a high speed in Seem Canal.

Deputy Commissioner Qambar Shahbad Kot, Agha Abdur Rahim Pathan has said that the Seem Canal does not have the capacity to hold 0.8 million cusec water. This has put the settlements in the surrounding area at a risk, he warned.

According to Irrigation Department, in the next phase the flood water will flow to Saifullah Magsi Canal and if it could not be controlled then areas around Kubo Saeed Khan, Shahdad Kot and Warah will be exposed to the danger of inundation.

Advisor to the Sindh Chief Minister for Relief, Halim Adil Shaikh has assured that all necessary arrangements have been put in place to meet any untoward incident.
