KARACHI: The Sindh Peoples Local Government (SPLG) bill was passed by the Sindh Assembly amid opposition’s protest on Monday, Geo News reported.

According to sources, the bill was presented by the Law Minister Ayaz Soomro before Speaker Sindh Assembly Nisar Khuhro. 149 members voted in favour of the bill while 18 were in opposition.

As soon as the session began, members of the opposition Jam Madad Ali, Marvi Rashdi, Nusrat Sehar Abbasi and others staged a protest against the ordinance by sitting on the floor infront of the Speaker’s podium with black armbands. The opposition members also tore the copies of the bill while protesting.

The members of the Pakistan Muslim League-Functional (PML-F), Awami National Party (ANP) and Like-minded requested the Speaker to allot them opposition benches.

They told the Speaker that they had sent their resignations to the Chief Minister Sindh.

Speaker Nisar Khoro said opposition benches cannot be allotted to them till the acceptance of their resignations.
