PESHAWAR: Investigations have been kicked off against six security personnel in the wake of recovery of a satellite phone from Dr. Shakil Afridi, being detained in Central Prison Peshawar.

According to sources, Dr. Shakil Afridi used the satellite phone to give interviews to a foreign newspaper and to make a number of calls within and outside Pakistan.

A security man has also bee taken into custody for allegedly delivering the phone to Dr. Afridi, sources told Geo News.

On the other hand, Deputy Superintendent Prison Maqsood-ur-Rehman told Geo News that Dr. Afridi's lawyer or brother who had come to see him a while ago might have smuggled the phone into the prison and given it to him.

Investigations are now being carried out against six security officials who were deployed for Dr. Afridi's security.

According to the Deputy Superintendent, neither any official was taken into custody nor suspended.
