It's Parlaiment's prerogative to decide KBD fate: Kaira

ISLAMABAD: Minister for Information and Broadcasting Qamar Zaman Kaira said on Friday that Parliament was the right forum to make decision about the construction of Kalabagh dam.

Addressing a function held in connection with the foundation day of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) in the federal capital, the minister said despite judicial murder of Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, witch-hunting of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto and President Asif Ali Zardari through fake cases, the PPP respects the judiciary.

He said that the nation remembers those who attacked the Supreme
Court of Pakistan.

"The PPP has strived very hard to strengthen the federation and we request the respectable judges to remain in their domain and let the parliament decide the issues of political nature", said the minister.

He said that the PPP leadership believes that strong institutions were vital for strong Pakistan and all institutions should remain in their domain.

The minister said that the PPP will be victorious in the coming election due to its people friendly polices.

The Minister said that PPP would also win elections in Punjab as in recent past the PPP candidates have returned on the seats vacated by Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz.

He said the government has effectively fought war against terrorism in the country. He said in 2008 when the PPP came to power, it was of the view of the people that terrorists would occupy Islamabad soon but due to effective policy of the government their backbone has been broken.

He said PPP wants to forget politics of 1990 and has desire to promote politics of reconciliation in the country. He said the government was pursuing the policy of reconciliation as per vision of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto.

The Minister recalled that it was the President Asif Ali Zardari who convinced Mian Nawaz Sharif to contest the elections.

The Minister said that President Asif Ali Zardari had rid the Presidency of its past tradition of hatching conspiracy against democracy, adding that Presidency was the hub of all kinds of conspiracies against democracy in the past.

"President Asif Ali Zardari has strengthened democratic institutions, stood large as a protector of the hitherto fragile house of democracy and warded off all conspiracies against democracy," he remarked.

Kaira asked whether people want political president or conspirator president.

He said that PPP leaders never ran away from the country and have
the courage to face dictators.

The Minister said Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto formed the PPP to empower the farmers, workers and other weaker sections of the society especially women.

Bhutto has also supported the workers class and initiated many project for their uplift.

Kaira said that Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto gave new spirit to the nation 1971 and Shaheed Benazir Bhutto continued his mission. After her assassination in 2007, President Asif Zardari has continued the mission of the PPP.

The Minister said that women have been empowered through Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) and other political party has introduced programme like this.
